Nico De Boinville Cheltenham Rides Day 3: Four Rides On Thursday
Nico de Boinville was crowned the Champion Jockey of the Year five years ago for his brilliant performance at the 2018 Cheltenham Festival. He won three races, including a second and third place finish too. This year, he will be hoping to replicate that form with a stellar showing at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival.
On Day 3, Nico de Boinville has one ride on Thursday 16th March. His first ride comes in the Turner Novices’ Chase with Balco Coastal, with his biggest ride coming in the Ryanair Chase on overriding favourite and Festival banker – Shishkin.
The Gold Cup winner with Coneygree also has two more rides on Day 3 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival. He saddles Walking On Air in the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle (2.10pm) and Luccia in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (4.50pm) as the betting favourite.
De Boinville is also priced at 6/1 as one of the favourites with leading bookmaker Betfair to be the 2023 Cheltenham Festival Champion Jockey.

What Horses Is Nico De Boinville Riding On Day 3 Of The 2023 Cheltenham Festival?

BALCO COASTAL (Turners Novices’ Chase – 13.30): @ 11/1 with Betfair
Nico De Boinville’s first ride on Day 3 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival comes in the opener, the Turners’ Novices Chase. He saddles Balco Coastal, who is currently the fourth favourite behind Mighty Potter, Appreciate It and Banbridge.
He certainly has an outside chance here on a horse who boasts decent form with a win and runner-up finish in his last two starts. Came second in the Ballymore here 12 months ago so will be looking to go one better this year in the Turners Novices’ Chase.
WALKING ON AIR (Pertemps Handicap Hurdle – 14.10): @ 15/2 with Betfair
De Boinville’s second ride on Day 3 at Cheltenham comes in the form of Walking On Air in the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle. He is the 15/2 third favourite, and is one of the form horses in the race.
Walking on air won last time out at Exeter impressively with the same jockey on board, as well as being awarded a fair handicap here of 138, running off 11st 5lbs which is a more than fair mark for him. Could be an outside chance here for De Boinville.
SHISHKIN (Ryanair Chase – 14.50): @ 25/1 with Betfair
In terms of Cheltenham odds, Nico De Boinville’s biggest ride on Day 3 is the overriding favourite and pre-Festival banker Shishkin in the Ryanair Chase. He is priced at around 5/6 with the best horse racing betting sites and looks to be one of the bankers of the entire 2023 Cheltenham festival.
The 9-year-old has won at Cheltenham twice before in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle in 2020 and the Arkle Novices’ Chase in 2021, but did pull up last year in the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
He is a massive favourite here and it would come as a huge shock if Nico De Boinville didn’t cross the winning post first aboard Shishkin in the Ryanair Chase.
LUCCIA (Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle – 16.50): @ 13/8 with Betfair
Nico De Boinville’s fourth and final ride on Day 3 at Cheltenham comes in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, where he is in the saddle on the favourite, Luccia. This impressive mare hasn’t put a foot wrong so far, winning on all four of her racing starts to date.
Her last two wins have come over hurdles, winning by 11 lengths last time out at Exeter and five-and-a-half-lengths the time before that at Newbery. Looks like a great horse and certainly one of the overriding favourites here on Day 3. Has a really strong chance.
