Newcastle United are reportedly planning a shocking bid for Juventus veteran, Leonardo Bonucci, as the Italian looks set to leave Turin this summer.

Champions League football returned to St James’ Park in the club’s first full season following the recent Saudi Arabian takeover.

Eddie Howe stunned Premier League spectators, as the Toon finished in fourth place and were within touching distance of Manchester United in third.

Champions League qualification was not the only achievement for the club last season, as they reached the Carabao Cup final – losing 2-0 to Manchester United.

Key signings have been key for the Toon since Howe’s appointment, with the likes of Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Nick Pope playing a huge part in the club’s success.

One player that is reportedly on Eddie Howe’s wish-list is Juventus veteran, Leonardo Bonucci, who is set for an imminent departure from Juventus this summer.

The 36-year-old has 502 appearances for the Old Lady, scoring an impressive 37 goals despite playing as a central defender.

During his time in Turin, Bonucci has won eight Serie A titles, four Italian Cups and five Italian Super Cups. As well as earning a consistent spot in the Italian national side – winning the Euros 2021.

Fans will be shocked to hear the news of a possible exit, as prior to Bonucci’s contract extension, the Italian had been adamant on retiring this summer. However, after signing a contract until 2024 and confirming his future for another year, Bonucci could be on the move in the coming weeks.

Newcastle’s interest may come as a surprise to Premier League spectators, however, after the signing of youngster, Sandro Tonali, the Magpies may be keen on adding some more experience.
