Newcastle have reportedly tabled a club-record bid of £82m for Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League.

The Magpies have entered the race to sign one of Serie A’s brightest stars and with a bid of €90m reportedly tabled today, there is a good chance the Napoli youngster could make a switch to the Premier League.

Kvaratskhelia scored 12 goals and assisted 10 in 34 league matches last season, during an impressive title winning campaign for Napoli.

The Georgian also shone in the Champions League last season and Eddie Howe has made the move for Kvaratskhelia just as his side returns to Europe’s most elite competition.

After finishing fourth in the league last season, Newcastle will be looking to build on an impressive year with the hopes of staying amongst England’s top four for a second consecutive season.

If the Magpies see their £82m bid rejected by Napoli then they will reportedly increase their offer to £85m, as they desperately try to improve their already stacked squad.

Sandro Tonali has already signed from AC Milan this summer, with the 23-year-old becoming the club’s second most expensive signing in history.

Although Newcastle are yet to hear back from Napoli, they have reportedly told Eddie Howe and his side that their plans for next season still include Kvaratskhelia.

After forming one of the most lethal attacking duos last season with Victor Osimhen, it would be a surprise to see Kvaratskhelia leave Napoli following a breakthrough season under Luciano Spalletti.

Spalletti has now left Napoli though and with new manager Rudi Garcia taking over, Kvaratskhelia could be tempted by a move to the biggest league in the world this summer.
