Newcastle Eyeing Up £52m January Move For West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta

Newcastle have set their sights on West Ham star Lucas Paqueta for £52m despite rejecting Man City’s £69m bid.

Paqueta wanted to join Man City in the summer but West Ham wanted more money than City were looking to offer. The Hammers were after around £90m. The two clubs ended up settling on £80m and Paqueta was close to signing but the FA prevented the transfer due to an investigation into betting breaches that Paqueta has made. They sold Rice to Arsenal for £105m.

Paqueta gave Man City coach Pep Guardiola and other staff members a huge at the weekend as the two clubs faced each other. This indicates a move to the Etihad is still on the table for Paqueta but Newcastle will fight for him.

It looks as though the two Saudi-owned clubs will be battling for Paqueta’s signature in January. It’s being reported that Newcastle are set to offer £52m to West Ham for Paqueta despite West Ham rejecting Man City’s initial bid of £69m and that West Ham are only responding to an offer around £90m for the Brazilian. Newcastle certainly have the money but it’s going to be down to how much they want the player.

Paqueta has 15 goal involvements since joining West Ham last summer. The attacking midfielder has shown plenty of creativity and flair to attract attention from big clubs.

The Hammers seem to have a taste for selling plyers for big money after Rice went to Arsenal for £105m. They’ll be hoping for a similar situation as the two Saudi clubs will be queuing up in January with their debit card in hand for Paqueta.
