Match Report

• Newcastle came into the match looking for their first win since the opening day of the campaign, but it was Brentford who started strongest.
• The in-form Bryan Mbeumo, came close for the Bees, however his strike failed to test Nick Pope in the Newcastle net.
• Neither side could break the deadlock and went into the break with points to prove in the second-half – especially with Newcastle’s recent form.
• The second-half started similar to the first, with Brentford having more of the ball and creating some half chances. However, after Anthony Gordon was tripped in the box, the Magpies took the lead as Callum Wilson converted from the spot.
• Newcastle were awarded a second penalty in the last 10 minutes, after the ball struck Mbeumo’s hand. But after a VAR review it was retracted and the score remained 1-0.
• Brentford failed to create anything of note for the remainder of the match and Newcastle cruised to their second victory of the campaign.
