The Charlie Appleby-trained 5 year-old was a solid fourth last time at Royal Ascot in the Wolferton Stakes and before that was a close second in the G3 Diomed Stakes at Epsom which certainly gives him a squeak of upsetting the jolly – William Buick rides. The consistent Epic Poet can do best of the rest.

This is a race the Ian Williams camp and jockey Jim Crowley have teamed up to win twice in the last three years and they go again this Saturday with Zinc White. This 5 year-old was well down the field in the Ascot Stakes last time, but that came over 2m4f so the drop back in trip here will help. Prior to that run was a good winner at Chester on soft ground so any of the wet stuff, which is forecast, will also help. Would be no shock to see him bounce back.

Williams also has The Grand Visir in the race, so this one has to be respected too – while the step up in trip for the Hughie Morrison runner Stay Well catches the eye and if lasting out could be interesting.

Frankie Dettori is back this weekend after a few bans he picked up at Royal Ascot and he can hit the ground running with Lezoo – a horse he knows well. Last seen running down the field in the Commonwealth Cup but let’s not forget she’s a proven Group One winner when taking the Cheveley Park Stakes at HQ last season.

She’s rated 112 and the second top-rated in the field, but also gets a handy weight/fillies’ allowance from the others here and will find this ease into a G3 right up her street. Commanche Falls, who won well at the Curragh last time, and the Irish raider from the Murtagh camp Shartash can do best of the rest.

A race the Richard Hannon yard love to win this race with 7 wins in the last 19. They mean business again too with seven runners. Of that bunch, La Guarida and The Camden Colt look their main hopes, but you simple can’t rule out any of the Hannon entries.

Son Of Coballis and Bobsleigh have claims too, but the horse that sets the standard is the William Haggas runner Relief Rally, who was a close second in the Queen Mary Stakes last time at Royal Ascot which is the best form on show and would be hard to beat in this lucrative prize.
