Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk scored a spectacular solo goal for Ukraine in their match against Malta on Tuesday night.

Ukraine were in pursuit of keeping their Euro 2024 qualification hopes alive. However, they faced an early setback when Paul Mbong netted a goal for the home team in the 12th minute.

The tide shifted in favour of Ukraine as Ryan Camenzuli inadvertently scored an own goal, before Artem Dovbyk converted a penalty. Still, it was Mudryk’s goal which sealed a crucial 3-1 victory for his nation, displaying extraordinary speed and devastating striking ability in the 85th minute.

Mudryk’s journey at Stamford Bridge has been a challenging start following his big-money move from Shakhtar Donetsk in January. The winger has faced plenty of adversity during Chelsea’s struggles under managers Graham Potter and Frank Lampard. However, perhaps this could act as a turning point for the 22-year-old.

Earlier this month, Mudryk scored his first competitive goal for Chelsea in a 2-0 Premier League victory against Fulham. Chelsea return to Premier League action on Saturday against London rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

As for Ukraine, their hopes of Euro 2024 qualification are very much still alive following Italy’s 3-1 defeat to England. The result means England have secured qualification. Ukraine will face Italy next month in a decisive encounter to determine who joins England in the automatic places.
