Arsenal just edged Barcelona in pre season thriller on Wednesday night and following the match, Mikel Arteta provided an update on Folarin Balogun’s future amid transfer rumours.

With all the rumours surrounding Balogun this summer, it came as no surprise that the Arsenal forward’s position in London was the first question on everyones lips following the Gunners’ win against Barcelona on Wednesday.

Arsenal breezed past Barcelona at the SoFi stadium in California, but American native Folarin Balogun was nowhere to be seen during the 5-3 win.

Mikel Arteta was quick to give a Balogun update after the win, saying that Arsenal’s young star was injured so did not train with the rest of the squad this week.

“He [Balogun] was unavailable. He has a little foot injury and hasn’t been training with us.”

On whether or not Balogun will remain an Arsenal player next season, Arteta gave a short but simple reply that won’t have filled Gunners with any confidence.

“We will see. First of all, he needs to be fit and play minutes.”

The 22-year-old has reportedly had plenty of new potential suitors this summer including Inter Milan, who are reportedly lining up a €40m bid for Arsenal’s young striker.

It was reported earlier this week that Balogun has been training separate from the rest of the Arsenal squad and although Arteta clarified he has been injured, training alone only added to the rumour mill.

Balogun scored 21 goals last season in a breakthrough season on loan at Reims which has secured him interest from all over Europe ahead of next season.

Having brought in Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice for over £200m this summer, Arsenal could still sell Balogun this summer as he searches for regular first team football.
