Levi Colwill Hailed By Mauricio Pochettino

The Blues beat Brighton 4-3 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday and Colwill’s defensive efforts were praised by Pochettino in the win against the side he spent last season on loan at.

After the game, the Chelsea boss was asked about Colwill’s future, and he gave a stern response: “We don’t need to make a statement about nothing. He’s (Levi Colwill) our player and he’s going to continue with us.

“I am happy with him, his performance was good today, better than what I expected because it’s only the first game with us after the season in Brighton.

“But I think he can be one of the greatest centre-backs in England.

“He is going to be part of our team.”

Colwill played 81 minutes in the Premier League Summer Series match, before being replaced by Lewis Hall.

New signings Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson scored for the Blues, as did Mykhailo Mudryk and Conor Gallagher.

Chelsea found themselves 4-1 up after Danny Welbeck originally gave the Seagulls a 1-0 lead. Roberto de Zerbi’s side fought back with Joao Pedro and Denis Undav scoring late consolations.

The West London side continue their pre-season preparations this week in the Summer Series with fixtures against Newcastle United and Fulham to come.
