Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has been ruled out for the rest of the 2022-23 season after suffering a knee injury against Bournemouth earlier this month.
The former Ajax man will be sidelined for the rest of the campaign after being substituted in the first half of United’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth due to a knee injury on January 3.
Van de Beek avoided cruciate damage but will endure yet another setback in his turbulent Old Trafford career to date since signing for a £35 million fee in August 2020.
The 25-year-old has made just 34 league appearances for the Red Devils in two-and-a-half years, falling out of favour with former managers Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
There was hope that the Dutchman could revive his career at United under Erik ten Hag, who managed him at Ajax from 2017-20 and played an instrumental role in reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2019.

Van de Beek spent the second half of the 2021-22 season on loan at Merseyside outfit Everton but failed to break in to the side and struggled with injuries, making seven appearances.
“On the long term it is looking really good, he will be back for the start of pre-season,” Erik ten Hag said.
“The rest of the season he is out. “I think everyone’s thoughts are with him. It is terrible when you are in a season and you get a bad tackle, a bad injury.

“It is always really disappointing and thoughts, feelings are with the player. You express that, our group did that really well, and we are now happy his knee in the long term is good.
“In the same moments, mixed feelings. Disappointment he is out of this season. The players are feeling we are building something good and we want to be part of it and everyone wants to be part of it.”
Manchester United host Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon in the early kick-off, with ten Hag looking to avenge the 6-3 defeat to Pep Guardiola’s side in October.
