Manchester United are reportedly still pursuing a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong in the latest transfer news.

Reputable sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has reported that Manchester United are still interested in a move for Jeremie Frimpong, having previously been linked to the defender in January.

A move for the 22-year-old didn’t materialise in the last transfer window, but the Red Devils remain interested according to Plettenberg.

Frimpong is a Manchester City academy graduate, and has been with Bayer Leverkusen since signing from Celtic in 2021.

He enjoyed two successful years with the Glasgow’s Green and White, winning the treble in 2019/20 – becoming a fan favourite in the process.

Since moving to Germany in January 2021, the youngster has made 76 appearances for Leverkusen – netting on seven occasions.

The Dutchman still has two years left on his contract with the Bundesliga side, and has a market value of around £25m, per transfermarkt.

Plettenberg’s Comments

The German journalist shared the transfer news on Twitter:

“[Frimpong’s] still on the list of Manchester United as revealed.

“But contrary to other reports there are no concrete talks between Man United & his management at his stage. No negotiations with Leverkusen.

“Contract until 2025 but still keen to make the next step.”

Could United actually make the move for Frimpong?

The club already have two right-backs in the form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot.

However, Wan-Bissaka’s future has been in doubt for a while after falling out-of-favour and becoming the second choice right-back. As well, Dalot has cemented his place as Erik ten Hag’s first-choice right-back, but will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer.

Contract talks with Dalot are reportedly ongoing, but a deal for Frimpong could seriously be on the cards if a contract renewal cannot be agreed.
