Despite ongoing contract talks with David de Gea, Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Borussia Dortmund stopper Gregor Kobel.

Erik ten Hag is believed to be wanting to keep De Gea, but with his poor form as of late – the Dutchman wants further options to create competition for the role.

The report comes from the Independent, who claim Kobel fits the profile required by United due to his ability with the ball at his feet.

This is something that has been an issue for De Gea, and has been highlighted amid poor performances in recent weeks.

Dortmund are said to be aware of interest from several clubs, with Chelsea also having been linked with the Swiss goalkeeper.

Kobel’s contract with the Bundesliga giants runs until the summer of 2026. He is also seen as a major influence on the club’s first proper title challenge in the German top-flight for a number of years.

The four-time Switzerland international has made 33 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions this term, as they sit second in the Bundesliga.

His efforts has seen his side earn 14 clean sheets, leaving them just one point behind leaders Bayern Munich.

Despite his efforts at club level, Kobel hasn’t quite secured the Swiss number one shirt.

That role is held by title-rival Yann Sommer, who is currently Bayern’s starting goalkeeper in Manuel Neuer’s absence.
