Manchester United are prepared to part ways with their club captain Harry Maguire in order to land Mason Mount from rivals Chelsea, in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have picked up their interest in recent weeks for the England star, as rival financial powerhouses Newcastle and Barcelona look ready to pounce.
Chelsea are not fond of losing the Englishman however his refusal to sign a new contract may force them to cash in now.
Mount’s current deal expires in June 2024, with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly reluctant to allow him to leave on a free next summer.
United are leading the race for the Champions League winner, although the deal is far from its conclusion.

England defender Harry Maguire is known to be an option for the Red Devils to bring the inflated fee down.
The skipper has struggled to live up to the price tag after his £80 million move from Leicester City back in 2019.
United manager Erik ten Hag has only chosen to start Maguire on just eight occasions in the league this season, preferring to use the partnership of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez instead.
Victor Lindelof and natural left-back Luke Shaw have even started ahead of the Englishman.
It has even been reported that United are so eager to cut-ties with the 30 year-old that they will pay his contract out, a fee which could cost up to £10 million.
New Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is known to be an admirer of Maguire, trying to sign him from Hull City in 2017.
