Manchester United Set To Challenge Liverpool In Race For Unsettled Chelsea Star Mason Mount

Manchester United have seen their odds of signing Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount move to 11/2, as the Red Devils look to beat Liverpool in the race for the 24-year-old’s signature.

The England international has had a difficult campaign so far, falling out-of-favour at his boyhood club and failing to impress under Graham Potter. Mount has made 23 appearances in the Premier League, scoring three and assisting only two in an equally as under-performing Chelsea side.

Potter’s men have struggled to live up to expectations this year, with the Blues sitting in tenth place – 11 points adrift from the all-important top four. Supporters have shown their frustration towards both the players and manager, after the club spent over £500m on transfers.

However, it’s an academy graduate that has been rumoured to depart, with Manchester United and Liverpool showing interest in Mount. Both Erik ten Hag and Jurgen Klopp are keen on strengthening in midfield and the former Derby County loanee could be the perfect addition.

United have been linked with a variety of midfielders in the last few months, as Casemiro’s recent suspension has shown their lack of depth in that area. Frenkie de Jong has been the primary target for ten Hag’s side, but with the Barcelona star looking unlikely to leave, it may be time to look elsewhere.

Klopp’s Liverpool side are having a similar season to Chelsea, in that they are seven points off the top four and have failed to show the quality that Premier League fans have become accustom to. The Reds have the fifth oldest starting eleven in the Premier League on average (27 years old), highlighting how much a younger addition is needed.

Another young Englishman that Klopp has showed interest in is Borussia Dortmund starlet, Jude Bellingham. The 19-year-old has been linked with the Red side of Merseyside continuously, but should a move fall-through then Mount could be the ideal option.
