According to a report, Manchester United have entered the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic this summer.

The Guardian claim that the Croatian is likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. This is said to be drawing interest from the Red Devils, Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

Kovacic has just a year left on his contract with the Blues, and with the club needing to decrease the size of their squad, as well as their wage bill, his sale this summer may benefit all parties.

Chelsea are under pressure to sell assets after spending upwards of £600m during the last two transfer windows. Kovacic, as well as Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher have been tipped to be shown the door.

He was an ever-present figure under Thomas Tuchel during Chelsea’s Champions League-winning campaign, and they could now be set for a reunion with the Bundesliga leaders.

Manchester City’s interest likely comes amid Ilkay Gundogan’s likely departure. The Citizens had held an interest in Jude Bellingham, but his move to Real Madrid looks all but confirmed now.

Erik ten Hag is said to be keen to add more midfield options in the summer. Marcel Sabitzer is set to return to Bayern at the end of his loan, with the club undecided on whether to make the transfer permanent.

Kovacic has enjoyed an incredible five-year spell with the Blues, having initially joined on-loan from Real Madrid.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, he has won the Champions League, the Europa League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Club World Cup.

Notably however, he is yet to win a Premier League title. Could the prospect of winning the English top flight tempt him towards a move to one of the Manchester clubs?
