Manchester United are eyeing Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez as a David de Gea replacement with Inter Milan shot stopper Andre Onana proving to be too expensive.

The 25-year-old has fallen out of favour under Roberto de Zerbi last season losing his number one spot to Jason Steele, and he is likely to fall further down the pecking order after the Seagulls announced the signing of Anderlecht ‘keeper Bart Verbruggen on Monday.

Sanchez has been a consistent performer in the Premier League in recent seasons and is great with the ball at his feet. This is exactly what Erik ten Hag wants considering De Gea was not so good at passing and distributing the ball. However, De Gea could still play for the club next season despite currently being a free agent, but the re-signing could see his wage significantly reduced.

United have been linked to Inter Milan’s Onana in recent weeks, however his £50m asking price is more than the Red Devils are willing to pay. They are said to have made a verbal proposal of £34m plus add-ons but they know Inter won’t sell the Champions League finalist easily.

With United now signing Mason Mount in a deal worth up to £60m, they are strapped for cash while also in desperate need of a striker.

Ten Hag is hoping to sell a number of players to free up space in the squad as well as rack up some extra funds due to strict Financial Fair Play rules. Harry Maguire, Antony Martial, Scott McTominay and Fred could all be on the move this summer.
