In the latest Manchester United injury news, the Red Devils have been handed a boost as Christian Eriksen looks set for an early return from injury after two months out.

Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Christian Eriksen will return to Manchester United first-team training this afternoon.

The Dane has missed the last two months with an ankle injury after being fouled by Andy Carroll in United’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Reading.

This has seen him miss the Red Devils’ last 15 matches, but he now looks close to returning.

Eriksen revealed two weeks ago that he had returned to outdoor training. Now, despite not being available to face Brentford in midweek, ten Hag has confirmed that the midfielder is returning to first-team training and is close to a return to the United squad.

“Not for tomorrow but he’s [Eriksen] returning into team training,” Ten Hag said.

“So we have to see now how quickly he can make the progress.”

Scott McTominay, Marcel Sabitzer and Bruno Fernandes started in midfield in the loss to Newcastle at the weekend, with ten Hag citing Eriksen and Casemiro’s absence.

“They are two quality players,” the United manager added.

“Games will be decided always in midfield. When you miss two quality players it’s clear. But you have a squad; if you don’t have them you still have to win.”

Luke Shaw signed a new four-year deal with the club, as confirmed by United on Tuesday. Ten Hag spoke on the defender putting pen to paper on a new deal at Old Trafford.

“I think it’s a good message. He is doing really well this season. I am really happy with him. He’s a modern left back but can also play centre-back. He matches the standards we want to have.”
