Manchester United are ‘nearing a decision’ on Mason Greenwood’s future

Mason Greenwood’s future at Manchester United is expected to be confirmed soon as the club near a decision on what to do with the 21-year-old.

Earlier this year, Greenwood was cleared of attempted rape, assault and coercive control by the Crown Prosecution Service when key witnesses withdrew their evidence.

He was arrested in January 2022 over the alleged rape and assault of a young woman who posted graphic images and videos to her Instagram account, as well as making threats to kill.

Later that year in October, Greenwood was arrested for a second time over an alleged breach of bail conditions and has seen sponsorship deals with companies such as Nike and Electronic Arts terminated.

According to the latest reports from the Manchester Evening News, the club are nearing a decision on his future – which could come within the next few weeks.

United’s investigation into the player is yet to be finalised and the final decision will be made by the Glazer family alongside CEO Richard Arnold.

Erik ten Hag has reportedly been in contact with the player and the tweet above suggests he would have no problem with Greenwood returning to the squad.

The Dutchman told Greenwood that he was ‘pleased’ the charges had been dropped and enquired about his physical and mental health.

A report from The Athletic detailed the Manchester United women’s team’s desire for Greenwood to be released from his contract and not appear for the Red Devils again.

The player, with 35 goals for the club in his career, could be back on the scene as soon as pre-season.
