Manchester United have been interested in Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae for a while now, and are not set to be taken on by fellow Premier League club Newcastle who are also keeping tabs on the South Korean defender.
The 26-year-old has taken no time to establish himself as one of the best defenders in Europe, and has took to Serie A football like fish to water.
He’s helped Napoli to a first Scudetto in over 30 years whilst scoring a goal and assisting two more. Kim also helped his side to a first ever Champions League quarter-final.
United are reportedly ready to trigger his release clause of £56million, and have already told Napoli they’re prepared to do so. Some reports suggested that Kim had already agreed to join the Red Devils, but his agent has spoken out on the matter.
Kim Min Jae’s entourage: “It’s not true that a deal is closed with Manchester United”. 🔴🇰🇷
“There is no hurry for the future. United have been interested in Kim since he was in China, we only spoke but I repeat: there has been no concrete contact”, told Star News Korea. pic.twitter.com/gL2LLdoUke

Newcastle are also heavily interested in him, and with the high possibility of Champions League at St James’ Park next season, there’s no reason why they can’t attract that kind of player.
However it may be argued that United are more in need of a centre-back. Harry Maguire’s future looks in doubt at the club while Victor Lindelof could leave in a bid for regular game time. Also, Rafael Varane has endured fitness and injury issues since his time in England, so Kim Min-jae could be a welcome signing at Old Trafford.
