Manchester United adamant they will not overpay to sign Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat

Manchester United are adamant that they will not overpay to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat as Erik ten Hag seeks midfield reinforcements at Old Trafford.

United’s interest in the Moroccan international has been well documented this summer and is heightened following the sale of Fred to Galatasaray and the possible departure of Scott McTominay also.

Donny van de Beek has also been linked with a move away to Real Sociedad. Amrabat, 26, is thought to be keen on a move to Manchester and personal terms won’t be an issue – it’s down to the clubs to agree a fee.

According to Sky, United will assess if they can push on with a deal to sign Amrabat or whether it will require further departures, meaning this saga could stretch to the dying embers of the window on September 1st.

It’s unclear how ten Hag would fit all four of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Mount and Amrabat into a single starting XI but the most likely scenario is the current Fiorentina man acting as a backup holding midfielder.

The 26-year-old has made 117 appearances in Serie A for ‘I Viola’ and took the footballing world by storm during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, producing a number of stellar performances as Morocco made it all the way to the semi-final before being dumped out by France.

United kick their 2023/24 Premier League campaign off tonight at the Theatre of Dreams against Wolves and have three games until the window shuts, leaving a bit more time on the clock for Ten Hag to assess his squad needs.
