The Manchester Derby returns on Super Sunday, as the Cityzens play host at the Etihad Stadium. We’ve had a closer look at the Manchester City and Manchester United squad values ahead of the highly anticipated derby.
Manchester City are in red-hot form as they welcome Manchester United to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon – as Pep Guardiola’s side are undefeated from 18 matches in all competitions.
Erling Haaland has hit form at the right time, scoring five goals against Luton in the FA Cup and will be hoping for a similar performance from this repeat fixture last season – scoring a hat trick in a 6-3 win.
Erik ten Hag’s side were humiliated by Fulham in their most recent league match and scraped through in the FA Cup with a 1-0 away win over Nottingham Forest.
United have a host of star players out with injury and could drop 11 points off the top four with a defeat and other results going against them.
We at SportsLens have looked more closely at the squad values of both Nottingham Forest and Manchester United and how the two compare.
Goalkeepers
Pep Guardiola signed his shot-stopper, Ederson, in 2017 and the Brazilian has been a revelation at Manchester City – showcasing a new style of goalkeeper.
Winning five Premier Leagues, four Carabao Cups, two FA Cups and the Champions League, Ederson has become one of the best goalies in world football – which is why he is valued at £34.2m.
United replaced long-time servant, David De Gea, with Cameroonian international André Onana in the summer and the former Inter goalkeeper has struggled in England.
Despite a tough campaign, particularly in the Champions League where Onana made three errors leading to goal, the 27-year-old is still worth £34.2m.
Defenders
Manchester City’s defence is full of world class talent and is unique, as Guardiola began to use four central defenders instead of full-backs last season.
John Stones will often push into midfield and the Englishman has a transfer value of 32.5m, despite repeated issues with injury.
Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias both share a value of £68.4m, while Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake are worth £36m and £34.2m respectively.
Lisandro Martínez has been deemed Manchester United’s most valuable defender at £42.7m, but the 2022 World Cup winner has been riddled with injuries this season.
The Red Devils spent over £80m to sign England international, Harry Maguire, but the defender is now worth just £17.1m and looks to be on his way out of Old Trafford.
Midfielders
The midfield of Manchester City is full of world class talent, from Bernardo Silva to Kevin De Bruyne, who guided City to a treble in 2022-23.
Silva has a transfer value of £68.4m and Kevin De Bruyne is said to be worth around £50m, as the Belgian comes into the latter stages of a stellar career.
Arguably the most important member of Guardiola’s side, Rodri has been valued at a whopping 94.2m and is deemed the best holding midfielder in world football.
Erik ten Hag’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, ranks highest for Manchester United in terms of transfer value – sitting at £59.8m.
Up-and-coming midfielder Kobbie Mainoo might only be worth £5.1m, but his recent form could see that number sky rocket and even earn an international call-up from Gareth Southgate.
Attackers
There is only one place to start with Manchester City’s attackers, and that is with the goal scoring machine – Erling Haaland.
Scoring 36 Premier League goals in his opening campaign in England, Haaland is worth £154.1m and is joint-top for the most valuable player in football – alongside Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe.
Phil Foden is also valued strongly, sitting at £94.2m and Julian Alvarez (£77M), Jack Grealish (£59.9m) and Jeremy Doku (£55.6m) are also high on the list.
For the Red Devils, Marcus Rashford is one of their most valuable players alongside Bruno Fernandes at £59.8m. The Englishman has endured a difficult campaign and has been upstaged by the recent form of Rasmus Hojlund (£55.5m).
