According to the Sun, Manchester City have entered the battle to sign Napoli defender Kim Min-jae.

Nicknamed ‘The Monster’, Kim has enjoyed a stellar season with the Serie A leaders and is now attracting interest from some of the world’s biggest clubs.

As previously reported, the South Korean has already attracted Premier League interest from Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham.

Not only that, but French champions and German champions Paris-Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also said to be keen on the defender.

But now, it is reported that Pep Guardiola is keen on the defender, who is said to have a £40m release clause.

It is believed that Napoli are looking to offer the 26-year-old new terms, but he is set on a move to the English top flight.

Manchester City are already well stocked in the centre-back department, with John Stones, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji and Aymeric Laporte all contracted to the club.

However, recent reports have claimed that Laporte has grown unhappy with his lack of game time and will look to move on in the summer.

This may be the reasoning for Guardiola’s interest in Kim, as he looks to add further quality to his squad.

Guardiola is also said to hold an interest in RB Leipzig central defender Josko Gvardiol.

Gvardiol had an extremely impressive World Cup with Croatia, and drew heavy transfer interest from big spending Chelsea, but no move materialised.

The acquisitions of Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana may well have seen the Blues’ interest in Gvardiol cooled, possibly leaving a door open for City to sign the Croat.
