Manchester City are reportedly eyeing a sensational £70million move for West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who is said to be interested in the move.

Lucas Paqueta is reportedly pushing for West Ham to let him join Manchester City, as the Cityzens prepare a £70million move for the midfielder.

Pep Guardiola is looking to strengthen his midfield options after Ilkay Gundogan’s departure to Barcelona, with Paqueta listed as an ideal candidate for his replacement according to The Guardian.

City are said to have already approached the Hammers over his transfer, however they fell below his current valuation and are expected to return with a £70million offer.

Despite the expected big-money offer, West Ham are expected to rebuff the European champions’ approach as they look for a higher fee in order to facilitate a sale.

Paqueta’s contract includes an £85million release clause, but it doesn’t activate until the summer of 2024.

After joining from Lyon for £51million last summer, Paqueta has firmly cemented himself as a fan favourite at the London Stadium.

The 25-year-old bagged five goals last term, but it was his creativity in creating opportunities in front of goal that endeared him to fans of the East London club.

However following Declan Rice’s departure – Paqueta is said to be unimpressed by the club’s efforts to replace the club captain, and he does not want to be involved in another relegation battle, which makes his exit look even likelier.

West Ham are the only Premier League side not to have completed a signing this summer, although they are close to agreeing moves for Edson Alvarez, Harry Maguire and James Ward-Prowse.
