Manchester City have received a major boost ahead of their clash with Newcastle United this weekend, as Aymeric Laporte and John Stones have both returned to full training – in the Citizens’ latest injury update.

Pep Guardiola has been without Aymeric Laporte for City‘s last three matches after he fell ill following the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest last month.

John Stones has been out with a thigh injury for even longer. The Englishman last played for Manchester City in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Arsenal at the end of January.

Without Stones, City have won just three of their last six matches.

Laporte’s presence was also missed in the last-16 Champions League tie. RB Leipzig fought back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw to take into the second-leg.

With City‘s fixture list becoming even more hectic over the coming weeks, it will come as a boost to Guardiola that both Laporte and Stones have fully returned to first-team training.

The pair were spotted in training after the club released images of the squad ahead of Saturday’s tie against Newcastle United.

For the first time this season, Guardiola could have all of his central defenders to choose from – in what’s set to be a thrilling clash at the Etihad.

Newcastle will be looking to bounce back against the Citizens on Saturday, having fell to defeat in the Carabao Cup final over the weekend.

Elsewhere for Manchester City, Tuesday evening’s win over Bristol City saw the return of midfield talisman Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian proved that he had fully recovered from his illness, as he netted the third for City. His spectacular long-distance effort left Max O’Leary no chance, securing the victory for Guardiola’s men.
