Manchester City are preparing to walk away from a deal to sign Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes, with their £60m asking price too high.

Man City Expected To Walk Away From Matheus Nunes Deal

The Portuguese midfielder has refused to train in recent days in a bid to force a move to City, but it looks like the deal will not be happening anymore.

It is believed that Wolves are wanting at least £60m for Nunes, who has made it clear he wants to leave the club. Wolves have already rejected a bid of around £47m for the 25-year-old, and they are not willing to pay over £55m.

Nunes was unavailable for Gary O’Neil’s side last night due to suspension, as they picked up their first win of the season in a 5-0 win over Blackpool in the Carabao Cup.

The West-Midlands club signed Nunes last summer on a five-year contract after paying a club-record £38m to Sporting Lisbon. He played a key role in the side last season, who finished 13th in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola is a long-term admirer of Nunes, and has been on the search for reinforcements after Kevin De Bruyne was sidelined earlier this month after picking up an injury in the side’s opening league game of the season against Burnley.

West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta was linked with a move to the Etihad, but that deal collapsed after news broke that he was being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches.
