Premier League champions Manchester City are close to agreeing a new long term deal with defensive talent Rico Lewis, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano.

Newly-crowned Premier League champions Manchester City are on the verge of agreeing a new long term deal with Rico Lewis, according to reports.

The report comes from respected transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who revealed on Twitter that the talks are in their final stages.

“Understand Manchester City are closing in on new long term deal for Rico Lewis — agreement set to be completed.” Romano tweeted.

“Talks had already been advanced for months and now it’s about final details. Pep, big fan of Rico and his potential.

“He’s staying at City. Here we go.”

Lewis’ emergence in the City first team after the World Cup prompted fresh contract talks over his future.

His current deal runs until the summer of next year, so the Premier League champions are keen to extend his terms to avoid the 18-year-old departing.

Since coming into the first team fold, Lewis has amassed 21 appearances for City in all competitions.

12 of those have come in the Premier League, as well as two in the Champions League.

He even netted his first senior goal for City – scoring in the 3-1 group stage win over Sevilla back in November.

Lewis has now added a Premier League title to his CV too, after City were crowned champions following Arsenal‘s defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Prior to this, the Bury-born defender had earned two U21 Premier League titles, as well as two U18 league titles.
