Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided an injury update ahead of his side’s Premier League tie against Leeds United and their Europa League first-round tie against Barcelona.

The injuries continue to mount for Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United. The Dutchman has revealed that Antony, Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay are all unlikely to be fit for their trips to Leeds and Barcelona. Long-term absentees Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek remain out, as Aaron Wan-Bissaka missed Wednesday night’s comeback against Leeds due to illness.

McTominay’s injury is yet to be disclosed, while Martial suffers with an hip issue and Antony is out with a leg injury.

Antony, Martial and McTominay have all been ruled out of Sunday’s derby at Elland Road. Ten Hag also confirmed that they are unlikely to be back in time for the first leg of the Red Devils’ Europa League first-round tie away at Barcelona.

Ten Hag’s Comments

“I don’t expect (that Antony, Martial and McTominay will be available), but we have some days — I don’t expect it and if I can oversee it until now I don’t see any new problems coming up. Barcelona? I think same answer. I can’t say for 100 per cent but I don’t expect it.”

Manchester United, of course, had plenty of players at this year’s World Cup. Ten Hag spoke about the negative effect this may have had on his squad, when it comes to injuries.

“So if you see Christian Eriksen, you can’t see that as an impact from a tough season,” Ten Hag added.

“It’s a tough season with the World Cup in between and a lot of load, overload, from the players, that’s quite clear. That process is already longer term coming on, that the load on the players is too much.

“Christian Eriksen, you can’t put that under that reason (of the World Cup). Martial, you can’t put that under that reason. It’s really individual, how we can see it and how we find reasons why things happen. But also injuries, if you play top football, you go across limits and injuries will come up, that’s also a normal issue, I would say.”

United missed the opportunity to go level on points with rivals Manchester City on Wednesday, and remain third in the Premier League table.
