Manchester City can become the first treble winners since Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United in 1999 and are favourites to win the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League respectively.

Following today’s 3-0 win at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final against Sheffield United, City have advanced to the final where they will face either Brighton or noisy neighbours Manchester United.

The club also remains in the Champions League with a semi-final showdown against Real Madrid on the horizon, facing off against Los Blancos for the second consecutive year.

In the Premier League, Pep Guardiola’s side trail the leaders Arsenal by five points but possess a vital two games in hand and meet the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium next Wednesday.

A quadruple was possible, but City were shockingly put out of the Carabao Cup earlier this year by relegation threatened side Southampton at St. Mary’s.

Guardiola shut down any talk of a treble in his pre-match press conference earlier this week and said he had no excitement about the prospect.

“Look how far away it is to start to talk about that. ‘Just’ 11 games…we’re far away. How many times in this amazing country has it happened? Once.

“Our neighbours did it. We’re closer to not doing it than to do it. The best is to focus is on if we have enough legs to compete against Sheffield United.

“Am I excited about the Treble? Not at all.”

City won a domestic treble in 2018-19 and became the first English team to do so, but the Champions League on Europe’s biggest stage continues to be what eludes them most.
