Luton Town have been promoted to the Premier League after beating Coventry City in the Championship playoff final, winning 6-5 on penalties.

Fankaty Dabo missed the decisive penalty for Coventry which handed the biggest prize in football to Luton, returning to England’s top-flight after a 31-year absence.

There was nothing to separate the sides after 120 minutes, ending in a 1-1 draw. Jordan Clark put the Hatters in front after 23 minutes before Gus Hamer replied after the hour mark.

Luton’s Joe Taylor had a 117th minute winner ruled out by VAR after he handled the ball in the process, later redeemed by scoring his side’s second penalty of the shootout.

According to Deloitte, Luton Town are expected to pocket anywhere between £135m and £265m after winning the playoff final in the most magical of footballing fairytales.
