Luccia Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Odds
The penultimate race on Day 3 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival gets underway on Thursday 16th March. The race takes place at 4.50pm, with the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle taking centre stage. This Grade 2 race often provides future Cheltenham stars, and there are some fantastic horses on show here.
One of the standout horses in the Jack De Bromhead Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle is the Nicky Henderson trained Luccia.
The 5-year-old mare currently sits as the betting favourite at odds of around 13/8 with the best horse racing betting sites. Luccia has won each of her four racing starts, including her last two runs over obstacles. She looks a real promising mare and could provide Henderson with yet another winner here on Day 3.
Luccia has been in good form of late and has had some stellar runs in preparation for the 2023 Cheltenham Festival. She has won at both Newbery and Exeter in her last two starts over hurdles as the favourite, winning by five lengths on one occasion and by 11 on the other. She is a really impressive mare, that is for sure.
As we have alluded to, the British horse has a perfect 4/4 record in her racing starts, and can make it a hat-trick of wins here over hurdles with yet another strong run on her first appearance at Cheltenham. You’d be a brave punter to take her on!

In terms of Cheltenham odds, Luccia’s odds could well shorten slightly as the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle race approaches, depending on the ground and the money coming in on her. She may even go into the race at around evens depending on the swing in the betting amarket.
The Willie Mullins-trained Lot Of Joy could be Luccia’s biggest threat here, along with the Jamie Snowden-trained You Wear It Well and Halka Du Tabert for trainer Gordon Elliott.
Henderson’s 5-year-old is the betting favourite, with fellow legendary trainer Willie Mullins the second favourite with Lot Of Joy in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. You can check out Willie Mullins vs Nicky Henderson head-to-head racing stats and net worth by clicking the link.
