Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse this summer after seemingly missing out on Chelsea star Mason Mount to Manchester United.

After seemingly missing out on Mason Mount, Liverpool have reportedly turned their attention to signing Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

The report comes from the Mirror, who say that Mount will exit Stamford Bridge in the summer, and despite being heavily linked with a move to Merseyside, he has now agreed personal terms ahead of a move to Manchester United.

This has left Jurgen Klopp searching for alternatives, with Ward-Prowse being identified as a potential suitor, as well as the Reds being linked with Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone and Gabri Veiga.

Ward-Prowse will almost certainly depart the Saints this summer, following his boyhood club being relegated after finishing rock bottom of the Premier League.

Southampton had originally placed a £50million price tag on their skipper, however after being demoted to the second-tier, their asking price may be lowered in order to secure funds in a quicker fashion.

The report claims that the Reds would be willing to spend around £25million in order to secure the services of the England international, with the club desperately needing to sign midfielders following the departures of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita.

Ward-Prowse doesn’t have a relegation clause in his contract, but has hinted at a move away from the St. Mary’s since finishing the 2022/23 season.

“It is nice of course, this is a club that has meant a lot to me. I’ve been here for 20 years and had a fantastic journey, I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. You never know what is going to happen in the future,” he said.

“I come away this season with my head held high knowing I’ve done everything I can for this club, not only this year but ever since I came through the door as an eight year old. To play a part in not maintaining that Premier League status hurts me but I’m sure this club will be back in the future.”
