Football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool starlet Fabio Carvalho is close to joining Bundesliga side RB Leipzig on a season-long loan.

After a fairly underwhelming 2022/23 campaign, Liverpool youngster Fabio Carvalho is close to joining RB Leipzig on a season-long loan.

Carvalho joined the Reds from Fulham for £7.7million last year, and was tipped for big things, but the move hasn’t gone quite to plan for the Portuguese forward.

His bright start at the club was short-lived, as he spent the majority of the campaign on the bench, making just five appearances under Jurgen Klopp since December.

And now, the 20-year-old looks set to depart for next season, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that he’ll spend the season on loan with RB Leipzig.

Romano revealed the latest on Carvalho’s move on Twitter on Friday morning.

“Fabio Carvalho will join RB Leipzig until June 2024 — no buy option confirmed.” he tweeted.

“Negotiations are being finalised as deal will be signed next week but the total agreement is confirmed.

“Loan deal was only solution as Klopp and Liverpool rejected any permanent deal bid.”

Leipzig had initially tried to sign Carvalho permanently, but for Liverpool to turn down their opening bid.

The Reds had reportedly then discussed the possibility of allowing him to leave permanently, but only if the deal included a buy back clause.

This option looks to have been rejected by the club, with a loan seemingly being the more appropriate exit for the youngster – who Klopp still sees a future in, previously describing him as a ‘talented boy’ who has ‘impressed’ him throughout the season.
