Liverpool and Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing West Ham defender, Nayef Aguerd, after an impressive spell under David Moyes.

The Moroccan international has been a stand-out performer since signing from Rennes last summer, being a key member in West Ham’s Europa Conference League triumph.

His performances have continued in the opening stages of the 2023-24 season, despite picking up a red card in West Ham’s 3-1 victory over Chelsea.

According to reports, these consistent levels of quality have attracted interest from both Liverpool, and Manchester City, as both clubs look to bolster their defence in January.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have started the season strongly, picking up 10 points from their opening four league matches. However, Virgil Van Dijk saw red during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Newcastle, meaning he missed the club’s 3-0 victory at home to Aston Villa.

The Dutchman’s suspension was then extended, after further investigation, meaning he will now miss Liverpool’s trip to Wolves this weekend.

Manchester City have picked up where they left of, winning their opening four matches in convincing fashion – as they sit top of the Premier League.

Guardiola’s summer additions, Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol and Jeremy Doku, have already made an instant impact and the Blue side of Manchester will be looking to repeat their treble success from last season.

Adding Aguerd to their side may be tempting for Blues supporters, after the departure of Aymeric Laporte and the concerning injuries to John Stones.

However, a deal for the Moroccan may be hard to complete in January, as he still has four- years remaining on his current deal and could cost up to £50m.

Guardiola will also face competition from his long-time rival, Klopp, as Liverpool look to find a long term replacement for Virgil Van Dijk.

No talks or bid have began between either party, however, the recent reports would suggest that the 27-year-old is high on City’s list.
