Liverpool are in talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a possible January move for talented defender Piero Hincapie, according to the player’s agent.

Liverpool Interested In January Move For Piero Hincapie

Jurgen Klopp’s side are keen on bringing in a new central defender and were reportedly interested in Hincapie’s services in the summer, but the Premier League outfit opted to invest more in the midfield.

The Ecuadorian’s agent Manuel Sierra was speaking about the situation: “Liverpool were interested in him, but (in the summer) they chose to invest in the midfield.

“For January, they are talking like other clubs, it will not be less than £50m”

Leverkusen currently sit at the top of the Bundesliga, and are unbeaten in the league so far this season.

That form has attracted plenty of attention from teams around Europe, and Hincapie’s centre-back partner Edmond Tapsoba has also received a lot of interest.

Tottenham were said to keeping tabs on both Tapsoba and Hincapie in the summer, but opted to sign Micky van de Ven instead.

Liverpool have wanted a left-sided defender for some time, and Hincapie ticks plenty of boxes. The 21-year-old is versatile and is capable of operating as a centre-back, left-back or left-wing-back.

The Reds were unable to bring in any defensive reinforcements due to midfielders leaving the club. Replacements were needed after Jordan Henderson and Fabinho both departed.

January could prove to be a big window for Liverpool, with a defender expected to sign for the club.

Hincapie could be that perfect defender for Klopp, but he will not be a cheap option and Leverkusen have previously priced clubs out of signing him.
