Liverpool FC have confirmed that Sven-Goran Eriksson WILL be part of the management team for the Reds Legends game vs Ajax in March.

The footballing world was rocked with the devastating news of Eriksson’s terminal cancer diagnosis in January. The reds fan expressed that managing the club was something he always wanted to do in his career.

Now, Eriksson’s wish has been granted by the Premier League title-chasers. The heart warming gesture will no doubt put a smile back on the face of the 76-year-old.

Sven-Goran Eriksson Liverpool

Sven-Goran Eriksson is a life-long Liverpool fan. The Swedish manager will now start to look forward to being in the dugout for the Reds clash against Ajax on March 23.

The Legends game will feature former Anfield heroes such as Ian Rush, John Barnes, John Aldridge and Robbie Fowler. Ever since Eriksson’s diagnosis, fans have rallied to make it possible for him to be involved.

“It has always been my dream. I’m not complaining – I had a lot of good football teams, national teams and clubs. I’m happy anyhow,” Eriksson said on Good Morning Britain.

Sven-Goran Eriksson Illness

Sven-Goran Eriksson’s illness was confirmed by himself on January 11. The former England and Lazio boss told reporters he has ‘a year at best.’

“I know that in the best case it’s about a year, in the worst case even less. Or in the best case I suppose even longer. I don’t think the doctors I have can be totally sure, they can’t put a day on it.

“It’s better not to think about it.  You have to trick your brain. I could go around thinking about that all the time and sit at home and be miserable and think I’m unlucky and so on,” he said.

Liverpool Legends Vs Ajax Legends

The Liverpool Legends vs Ajax Legends charity game will no doubt be a sell-out when it comes around on March 23. And rightfully so.

It really is a brilliant move from the Reds to include Eriksson. He famously led England to that 5-1 over Germany in a World Cup qualifier in 2001.

Liverpool have announced that the likes of Jerzy Dudek, Sander Westerveld, Martin Skrtel, Fabio Aurelio, Gregory Vignal, Djibril Cisse and Ryan Babel will all feature as well.
