Liverpool have agreed a deal with Brighton for Moises Caicedo, who is set to become the most expensive signing in Premier League history for a record fee of £111m.
Caicedo was heavily linked for a move to Chelsea this summer but in a dramatic twist Liverpool have outbid the Blues, who in turn are looking to hijack a deal for Romeo Lavia from Southampton.
Chelsea have bid £50m for Southampton’s young midfielder, however Lavia would still reportedly prefer a move to Liverpool over a switch top the capital.
Liverpool’s £111m move for Caicedo comes as a bold statement from Jurgen Klopp’s side, who have been very active in the summer window.

The Reds have a completely new-look midfield this year with Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and now Caicedo signing after Jordan Henderson and Fabinho were both sold to Saudi Arabian clubs.
Klopp spoke on Friday and made it clear that the departures played a big part in why the Reds changed their mind on the record-breaking deal:
“I got told I can confirm a deal with [Brighton] is agreed.
“What did change is that we are a club with not endless resources, so things we didn’t expect, a couple of things happening in the summer [Henderson and Fabinho], stuff like this.
“We didn’t think about that before the summer, to be honest and when it happened, we gave it a go and obviously, the club was really stretched there, to be honest.”

Caicedo was seen as ‘untouchable’ by Brighton who set a price tag of £100m on their 21-year-old which they believed to be out of anyones reach.
The £111m fee eclipses what Chelsea paid for Enzo Fernández in January, making the Ecuadorian the most expensive signing in England ever.
The deal is not yet over the line however, and there is a chance Liverpool’s deal could collapse after it was reported this morning that Caicedo may be having second thoughts.
