Leicester City and Burnley are reportedly set to battle it out for the loan signing of Manchester City youngster Cole Palmer this summer.

New Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca is looking ot make the most of his Manchester City connections by bringing Cole Palmer in on loan, but he is set to face stiff competition from Burnley.

Maresca spent last term as assistant to Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, however Burnley have a connection of their own to the English champions through their manager and ex-City captain Vincent Kompany.

The Clarets have already been conducting business with last season’s treble winners too, with James Trafford set to make a £19million switch to Turf Moor.

And now, according to Alan Nixon of The Sun, both Burnley and Leicester lead the race for the loan signing of Palmer from City.

It is claimed in the report that there is a feeling at the Etihad that Palmer is too good for the Championship though, therefore a move to newly-promoted Burnley may be the most viable option.

Palmer made 14 appearances in the Premier League last term, as well as four Champions League appearances, four FA Cup appearances and three Carabao Cup appearances.

Due to his number of appearances in each competition, he was eligible for a medal in all three tournaments – therefore Palmer is officially a treble winner, adding to his Premier League medal from 2021/22, and his Carabao Cup medal from 2021.

The Englishman also has international pedigree, having just secured the U21 European Championship title with his country earlier in July.

Palmer featured in five of England’s six matches on the road to the final, scoring once and assisting three times – including an assist for the winning goal in the final.

At 21-years-old now though, Palmer will almost certainly be looking to gain some consistent minutes over the course of a season, which remains unlikely at Manchester City, so a loan looks to be the most appropriate move for all parties ahead of the new campaign.
