Leicester City have appointed former Chelsea and Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero as their new assistant manager.

Willy Caballero Becomes Leicester City Assistant Manager

Caballero becomes the fifth addition to new boss Enzo Maresca’s backroom staff after leaving Southampton following an 18-month spell on the south coast.

The 41-year-old Argentine enjoyed a successful playing career which started with Boca Juniors and ended with Southampton after his contract expired.

During his time at City, he won the League Cup before moving to Chelsea where he added the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup to his CV.

Caballero will join Danny Walker, Michele De Bernardin, Marcos Alvarez and Javier Molina Caballero in Maresca’s coaching team.

The Foxes confirmed the news on Sunday morning.

Leicester get their Championship campaign underway at home to Coventry City on August 6. Caballero was a team-mate of Maresca’s when the pair played at Malaga, and will now work together in a bid to instantly return to the Premier League with the Foxes.

The rebuild is underway at Leicester with Conor Coady and Harry Winks already signing for the club. However, the East Midlands outfit have lost James Maddison with Harvey Barnes looking likely to be the next player to leave.

Youri Tielemans, Caglar Soyuncu, Daniel Amartey, Nampalys Mendy, Ayoze Perez and Ryan Bertrand also have left after their contracts expired at the end of June.
