Leeds United have confirmed the signing of Djed Spence on a season-long loan deal from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

Leeds Confirm Djed Spence Loan Deal

The 23-year-old only signed for Spurs last summer in a £20m deal from Middlesbrough, but failed to make an impact only making six appearances off the bench. He was then loaned out to Ligue 1 side Rennes in January.

Spence made a name for himself when he helped guide Nottingham Forest to the Premier League during a loan spell in 2021-22, but never signed permanently for the East Midlands side.

Moving to Elland Road will see him link up with Joe Rodon, who is also on loan from Spurs. The pair also played together at Rennes last season and are reunited once again, after helping the French side to a fourth-placed finish.

Leeds have taken just five points from their first four Championship games so far this season, and currently sit 13th. Spence could make his debut this weekend in a Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday.

Spence becomes Leeds’ sixth signing of the summer, after Joel Piroe, Ethan Ampadu, Karl Darlow, Sam Byram and Joe Rodon all joined the club.

A return to the second-tier could see the attacking full-back get his confidence back in English football and hit some form, after a tough start to life at Spurs.

Djed Spence was speaking to club media following his move to Elland Road: “I can’t wait to get started. It’s a big club, obviously there’s a good squad and the ambition here is to get back to the Premier League.”
