Latest National Hunt Chase Odds – Gaillard Du Mesnil Heads The Betting
The Cheltenham odds for the final race on Day 1 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival indicate that Gaillard Du Mesnil will go off as the heavy betting favourite to win the National Hunt Challenge Cup Amateur Jockeys’ Novices’ Chase.
The 7-year-old gelding currently heads the market at odds of around 6/5 with the best horse racing betting sites. Gaillard Du Mesnil is in great form and has placed at Cheltenham twice before, hence why he is the betting favourite here.
The French racehorse has put in plenty of strong runs in Grade 1 company recently, winning at Leopardstown back in December too. He is certainly a horse in good form and looks like he could claim his second chase victory here.
It comes as no surprise to see him as the bookies favourite here in the National Hunt Chase, given his recent performances and who his trainer is. He certainly looks the strongest horse in the race and is certainly the one to beat here in the seventh and final race on Day 1 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival.

Trainer Willie Mullins has real faith in his 7-year-old and will be hoping for a win here in the National Hunt Chase with his gelding. If Gaillard Du Mesnil were to go on to win, Mullins could well be in the 90’s for wins at the Cheltenham Festival, depending on how his horses perform in the six races prior to this one.
Gaillard Du Mesnil’s biggest threat in the race come from the John McConnell trained Mahler Mission. He is the second favourite in the National Hunt Chase on Tuesday and it is clear to see why. The Irish gelding is priced at odds of around 6/1 with the best Cheltenham betting sites.
Threats could also come from some other horses too in this race for Gaillard Du Mesnil. Ramillies, Chemical Energy and Churchstonewarrior all look to be in good form and are strong contenders in this one too. However, if Gaillard Du Mesnil is on top form, he will be hard to stop here in the last race on Day 1 of the Cheltenham Festival.
Mullins’ 7-year-old certainly has every chance of winning here as the favourite.
