It didn’t take Kylian Mbappe long to find his next home after he revealed he’d be leaving his boyhood club PSG in the summer.

Kylian Mbappe signs for Real Madrid

According to Marca, Mbappe has agreed terms with Real Madrid and has now signed a pre-contract agreement until 2029. This would keep him at Real Madrid until he’s 30.

His salary at PSG was around £62million-a-year; making him the highest paid player at the club. However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez having been adamant that his arrival could not break up the wage structure in the squad, so it’ll be interesting to see the figure that Mbappe agrees to.

There was a compromise in the contract. In exchange, Real Madrid have offered Mbappe image rights, with the Frenchman set to earn around 60 per cent of them. Real Madrid will also pay the 25-year-old a signing-on fee below £40m. This should make up for his reduced salary.

Real Madrid wanted Mbappe last year. They were willing to spend £120m and the deal was almost complete, but PSG offered Mbappe the contract of a lifetime. It was only a one-year deal but the bonuses were incredible.

When will the deal be official?

Real Madrid and Mbappe are in no rush to make the deal official to the public. They both want to focus on the remainder of their season.

An unveiling date is being targeted for between the end of the 2024 Euros (the final is played on July 14) and the start of the Olympics (with the football beginning on July 24).

Real Madrid will then have a 10-day window to present Mbappe, with the Frenchman keen to represent his nation at both the Euros and the Olympics. Paris are hosting this years Olympics and it will be a special note to end on for Mbappe as he prepares to leave his home country.

Which clubs did Mbappe reject?

Mbappe’s entourage met with Manchester City, but no official offer was made. Liverpool and Arsenal were also interested.

It’s clear that Mbappe wanted the Real Madrid move the most and nothing would get in the way of that. Only time will tell if he will live up to the hype when he puts the famous white shirt.
