Bellingham was officially revealed as a Real Madrid player on Thursday, with the 19-year-old claiming this is ‘the proudest day of my life’ after his £115m from Borussia Dortmund.

The deal between Madrid and Dortmund confirmed on Wednesday officially makes Bellingham the most expensive English footballer of all time.

Bellingham was initially welcomed by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who seemed proud of fighting off Premier League opposition to sign his superstar midfielder.

“One of the best players in the world’ and said he had signed because he had wanted to come despite massive interest from the Premier League.

“Welcome to the club of 14 Champions Leagues. We have won five of the last 10 Champions Leagues we never give in.”

Bellingham then spoke in front of everyone, beginning with an attempt at some Spanish before announcing:

“I just want to say, thank you everyone in the room for joining me on the proudest day of my life, the day where I join the greatest football club in the history of the game.

“Hala Madrid!”

The 19-year-old will not only have a huge price tag to live up to, but also a huge responsibility to perform well in the number five shirt bestowed to him.

Bellingham has famously only worn the number 22 throughout his career, with that shirt number being retired at Birmingham City when Jude left for Dortmund in 2020.

For the first time in his club career Bellingham will wear the number five, which was so famously worn by Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid many years ago.

Bellingham led Dortmund for goals, assists and tackles last season from midfield, so the versatile star certainly already has some similarities to Madrid legend Zidane.
