After masterminding another staggering run with Roma to reach a second consecutive European final, we are putting Jose Mourinho’s cup final record under the microscope as he looks to keep his unwavering track record on the continent intact.

Last summer, Rome was adorned by flags and banners plastered with tributes to Jose Mourinho, who ended a gut-wrenching 11-year trophy drought by lifting the inaugural Europa Conference League.

The first man to win all three major UEFA trophies, he is now eyeing successive triumphs in Europe on Wednesday when his side line-up against serial winners Sevilla in Budapest.

The Spaniards will be vying for their fifth Europa League title in 10 years, but bookmakers are taking no chances with Mourinho’s Roma with both sides handed the same price heading into the final.

The self-professed ‘Special One’ has made a habit of winning cup competitions throughout his managerial career, and seemingly relishes the isolated chaos of single ties.

Last season’s rather unspectacular 1-0 victory over Feyenoord in the final was typical of Mourinho, who will find any way to win no matter how strong the threat of backlash may be.

Although he has won a grand total of 14 major cup finals across his career in the dugout, it is European competition where the pure, unadulterated Mourinho comes alive.

He has a staggering 100% record across five finals, which includes two Champions League medals, two Europa League/UEFA Cup triumphs and last season’s Conference League victory.

Better yet, the last goal a Mourinho side conceded in a European decider was in his maiden final in 2003, where Henrik Larsson equalised just after half-time for Celtic.

The enigmatic Sétubal native has also only ever fallen to defeat just once within 90 minutes in a major cup final, which came in 2018’s FA Cup final against Chelsea whilst managing Manchester United.
