Former Chelsea midfiedler John Obi Mikel has revealed that his old colleague Eden Hazard is the ‘laziest’ player that he has ever seen.

Mikel played for Chelsea between 2006 and 2017, where he played 249 Premier League matches and contributed to one goal. The Nigerian won his fair share of accolades, picking up two Premier Leagues, four FA Cups and a Champions League trophy.

When the midfielder joined Chelsea, he joined a side that won the Premier League having conceded only 15 goals. The training sessions were at such an intense level and Mikel admitted that he’d never seen anything like it.

He said: “I never knew how much training meant to these guys until I joined Chelsea. The way they play in games is the way they train. There was tackles flying in, there was fights at the training ground.”

Hazard played alongside the Nigeria international from 2012 onwards and was renowned as one of the best players in the league. However according to Mikel, the Belgian superstar did not train with the intensity you would expect from one of the world’s best.

The Nigerian said: “There is no place for you to like be like, okay, I don’t want to train today. The only player I saw that did that and got away with it was Eden Hazard,”

“Oh, he never trained! He was the laziest footballer I’ve ever seen in my life! But come the weekend he produced. He was the Man of the Match.”

This accused ‘laziness’ may have caught up to the Real Madrid star, as he has suffered a torrid time with injuries during his time in La Liga. The winger has missed 79 matches due to injury and has only managed to appear three times this season.
