Former Leeds player turned pundit Jermaine Beckford has made a claim about his old side after appointing Javi Garcia as manager. He believes that Javi Garcia can galvanise Leeds united.

The Spaniard was appointed at Elland Road last week following the dismissal of Jesse Marsch, and won his first game in charge against Southampton at the weekend.

Junior Firpo’s first Premier League goal for the club gave Garcia the win against Ruben Selles’ side.

Beckford Believes Javi Garcia Can Galvanise Leeds United

Beckford, who spent four years at Leeds scoring 71 goals between 2006 and 2010 was speaking to the BBC ahead of the Whites’ trip to Craven Cottage in the FA Cup.

After Garcia said he’d enter every season looking to win silverware, and it would be no different during his time at Leeds United, Beckford responded.

“You would like to think so. It was a great performance against Southampton.

“Scored and won the game 1-0. You would like to think a new voice from the manager and the coaches, a new way of playing, philosophy and idea, it’s more than enough to galvanise that squad and push them forwards.”

Leeds’ win at the weekend lifted them up out of the bottom three, and with hopes of a new manager bounce continuing, they’re now priced at 2/1 to be relegated.
