Javi Gracia on Borrowed Time After Leeds Equal Record For Most Goals Conceded in a Calendar Month

Javi Gracia only took over at the helm towards the end of February, but a string of poor results has left Leeds clambering for survival and the club are reportedly assessing their managerial options as a result.

Following Leeds’ 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Bournemouth on Sunday, Javi Gracia was condemned to his seventh defeat in 12 matches since taking over.

The Whites are winless in their previous five, losing four in the process, which leaves them teetering on the edge of the Premier League drop zone where several teams below can leapfrog them with a victory.

The dismissal of Jesse Marsch at the beginning of February came after the American failed to lift his side away from the relegation places – they were 17th when the club pulled the curtain down on his tenure.

Fast-forward just 10 weeks, it now looks increasingly likely that the hierarchy at Elland Road are preparing for a third separate managerial hunt this season.

Their dismal form throughout April is deemed to be a compelling enough reason to consider cutting Gracia’s time short, having conceded 21 goals across their seven fixtures; this equals Newcastle’s record from 1986 for most goals allowed in a single calendar month.

According to The Guardian, several figures are of particular interest including Alan Pardew, who hasn’t managed in England since the 2017/18 season.

Elsewhere, former Leeds midfielder Lee Bowyer has been touted as a more realistic target. Not only does he have deep-rooted ties with the club having spent the better part of seven years in Yorkshire during his playing career, but he has proven his worth as a manager with recent spells at Charlton and Birmingham.

With the season’s end looming ever larger, it is unlikely a decision over their next permanent manager will be made at such a pivotal moment, which means Michael Skubala would likely act as interim manager once more.
