A 5f two-year-old sprint starts the day where John Steed will have to overcome his poor draw in stall 10. He did show a lot of natural speed on his racecourse debut just nine days ago and looks to have a bit of size and scope to improve as the season progresses. The same jockey, trainer and owner combo of David Loughnane, Laura Pearson and David Lowe won this last season and that’s a big pointer to his chances. He could also be a nice each-way price too.

Declan Carroll’s runner made a very satisfactory return to action 18 days ago at Thirsk and has a decent pull at the weights with Democracy Dilemma. The young rider Zak Wheatley takes off another 5lb and that’s another bonus. Seantrabh has lots of natural pace so should be able to take advantage of his inside position in stall three and and looks to have no problem with softer ground conditions.

Ralph Beckett’s filly Luckin’ Brew made steady progression last season, rounding off with an excellent second at Pontefract behind Local Dynasty, who is entered in the Lingfield Derby Trial this weekend. Stamina should come into play on soft ground over this near 1m 4f trip and despite it being her seasonal debut she won’t be lacking in the fitness department as stable’s runners are going well.

It’s been a great time for the owners after the brilliant success of Chaldean in the first Classic of the season, the 2,000 Guineas last Saturday. A win her would bolster the Epsom Derby claims of Arrest. This son of Frankel went through the gears very smoothly last season, rounding off with an excellent second at the top level. He was ready to run at the abandoned Sandown meeting a couple of weeks ago, so shouldn’t be a gallop short in the fitness stakes.

We haven’t seen Commander Straker since the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom last June, where he put up a big performance after showing blistering speed early on. He held on for third place that day and may be under the radar on a rating of just 85. His excellent handler David Loughnane can be rewarded for his patience and conditions should suit.
