Former England midfielder Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Pep Guardiola is the ‘greatest ever’ after Manchester City were crowned Premier League champions for a third successive season.

Arsenal’s defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening not only secured the Reds’ Premier League survival, but also Manchester City‘s title triumph.

The Citizens have now won three successive Premier League titles, and have won five under Pep Guardiola.

They kicked off their celebrations in style too, with Julian Alvarez netting the only goal of the match as City defeated Chelsea 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

It’s been a record breaking year for the blue side of Manchester, with many of the plaudits going Guardiola’s way for the job he has done at the Etihad.

But it doesn’t just end there. City are on course for a treble winning season, as they are also in the Champions League final, as well as the FA Cup final.

The Citizens are heavy favourites to win both ties, which would make them just the second English team ever to win the treble.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s 1998/99 Manchester United side, of course, were the first – winning the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

With City just two matches away from achieving the same feat, it has raised questions over where Guardiola stands amongst the greats – with Jamie Redknapp claiming that the Spaniard is the ‘greatest ever’.

Jamie Redknapp on Pep Guardiola

Speaking on Sky Sports following City’s title celebrations, Redknapp was asked where he thinks Guardiola ranks among the great managers of history.

“I think he is the greatest ever,” Redknapp said.

“I say that because he changed football. There’s been some great managers if you go through history.

“Arrigo Sacchi – what he did with AC Milan, managers that have changed football forever and he (Guardiola) is certainly one of them.

“Johan Cruyff – what he did in terms of playing out from the back, but when you go watch football now whether that be at grassroots or whatever – everyone plays the Pep way.” he continued.

“For me, he is the greatest ever. He’s won 11 domestic titles in 14 years that he’s been a manager, 28 major trophies.

“You could talk about Alex Ferguson as well, and there’s been some amazing managers, but for me he’s (Guardiola) changed football forever.”
