In the latest James Ward-Prowse transfer odds, Newcastle have been priced as favourites to sign the midfielder from relegation-battlers Southampton.

Southampton are now the second favourites to be relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.

The Saints are priced at 1/2 to go down, with just Bournemouth ahead of them as favourites.

One transfer that would almost certainly happen if they were to go down, is that of James Ward-Prowse’s.

Ward-Prowse has been linked with a move away from the south coast, as Southampton continue to flirt with relegation.

A transfer away from the Saint Mary’s shouldn’t be viewed negatively by Saints fans, claims West Ham striker Michail Antonio who describes the Englishman as a “legend”.

“He has done everything possible for the club,” said Antonio on the Footballer’s Football podcast.

“He stayed and signed contracts when there were opportunities to leave and if they go down and he does leave then I don’t think fans will look upon him in a bad way.”

Newcastle forward Callum Wilson may soon be teammates with Ward-Prowse, but he agreed with Antonio’s claims.

“I think their fans will want him to go on and flourish in his career – to live his dream and pursue it,”

“Loyalty is a two-way street. You want fans to be happy and grateful for what you have given them and then respect if you want to continue your journey in the Premier League.

“I’m also sure Ward-Prowse will want to stay in the Premier League to try and beat David Beckham’s free-kick record.”

The 28-year-old is just one behind Beckham’s record, having netted 17 direct free-kicks in the Premier League.
