Olympiacos have officially terminated James Rodriguez’s contract this week, with the 31-year-old playing just 23 games for the Greek side.

James Rodriguez was once one of the best players in the world, but the Columbian’s career has been going downhill ever since he left Bayern for Everton in 2020.

After leaving Everton following just one season with the Toffee’s, Rodriguez made the decision to play in Saudi Arabia and he joined Al-Rayyan for an undisclosed fee in 2021.

Rodriguez played just one season at Al-Rayyan before his contract was terminated by mutual decision between the player and club.

At the beginning of this season, Rodriguez was unveiled as an Olympiacos player, with the Puskas award winner pf 2014 looking to revive his career with the Greek Champions.

After just seven months at the club, Olympiacos released a statement on Thursday detailing the contract termination of the Columbian playmaker.

“Olympiacos FC and James Rodriguez have decided to terminate their cooperation. James will always be part of our club and a member of the ‘red-and-white’ family. We want to thank him for his service and we wish him every success in the future.”

Rodriguez played just 23 times in Greece largely due to injury and the former Real Madrid and Bayern superstar has been heavily linked with a move to Turkey since January.

The 31-year-old has also released a statement following his contract termination, as he thanked the club on Twitter for all they have done for him.

“I would like to thank everyone for all the time that we have spent together. Although we are going our separate ways, I feel that I will always be a member and welcomed in the family of the great port Piraeus.

“I wish all the best to Olympiacos and every success in the future.”
